“Steve Harvey Becomes Emotional on His Show After Eligible Son Shares Heartfelt Words About His Impact”

Steve Harvey’s Journey From Homelessness to Family Hero

Many people dream of living like celebrities, imagining fame and fortune come easily. But for stars like Steve Harvey, success came only after years of struggle and sacrifice.

Born to a coal miner father, Harvey grew up with little. Before fame, he worked various jobs—mailman, carpet cleaner, even boxer—while chasing his dream of comedy. Early gigs barely paid, and instead of keeping the money, he sent it to his ex-wife to support their children.

This generosity left him broke and homeless. For three years, Harvey lived in his car, showering at gas stations and pool facilities. “One or two gigs fell through, and suddenly I was homeless… This was three years!” he told PEOPLE.

His breakthrough came in 1990 as a finalist in the Johnnie Walker National Comedy Search, which led to hosting Showtime at the Apollo. From there, his career soared.

Beyond success, Harvey built a loving family. Married three times, he has seven children, including three adopted from his wife Marjorie. In a touching moment on his show, son Jason told him: “It don’t get no better than you, Dad. You it.” The emotional tribute brought Harvey—and his audience—to tears.
