Fatal blast near Palm Springs fertility clinic ‘act of terrorism’ – FBI

FBI: California Fertility Clinic Explosion a “Deliberate Act of Terrorism”

A powerful explosion outside a Palm Springs fertility clinic has left one person dead and four others injured, in what the FBI is calling an “intentional act of terrorism.” The blast, which occurred just before 11 a.m. near the American Reproductive Centers (ARC), shook businesses across the area and shattered windows blocks away.

Authorities have identified 25-year-old Guy Edward Bartkus of Twentynine Palms as the primary suspect. According to law enforcement, Bartkus expressed opposition to population growth and in vitro fertilization (IVF), a core service offered by ARC. Officials believe the explosion was caused by a large vehicle-borne improvised explosive device, felt more than a mile away.

Witnesses described chaos at the scene. “It was that big of an explosion—I could hear windows shattering all around me,” said cyclist Michael Beaumier. Others recalled seeing smoke, fire, and a phone apparently set up to record the blast.

ARC confirmed no staff or patients were harmed, and all embryos and medical labs remain secure.

The Center for Reproductive Rights condemned the attack, calling it “unconscionable,” while California Governor Gavin Newsom pledged full cooperation with federal authorities.
