Judge’s $1.5M beach home burns to the ground weeks after ruling against Trump

Judge Diane Goodstein’s $1.5 Million Beach Home Destroyed in Mysterious Fire

A devastating blaze consumed Judge Diane Goodstein’s oceanfront home in Edisto Beach, South Carolina, over the weekend, leaving behind only charred remains and unanswered questions. Fire crews arrived on October 4 to find the $1.5 million property engulfed in flames. The judge’s family escaped by leaping from the elevated first floor, and rescuers ferried them from the backyard in kayaks to waiting paramedics.

Three people, including Goodstein’s husband — former state senator Arnold “Arnie” Goodstein — were hospitalized. Officials said the injuries, including broken legs, likely came from jumping out of windows. Judge Goodstein herself was reportedly on the beach when the fire broke out. Witnesses described an “apparent explosion,” though investigators have yet to determine whether the cause was accidental or intentional.

The timing has fueled speculation. Just weeks earlier, Goodstein issued a restraining order blocking the U.S. Department of Justice from accessing personal voter data from over 3.3 million South Carolinians. Following that decision, she reportedly received multiple death threats.

Authorities are investigating the incident, while political figures spar online over whether the fire could be tied to escalating threats against judges in high-profile cases.
